Description

E Class e220cdi Elegance 7 seater Estate in metallic silver with long MOT.New car forces sale. I have owned this car for over 3 years and it has been a brilliant servant. It starts first time every time. Never let me down and has been a valuable addition to the family and has taken us all over the place.Literally been all over the country with the family on countless holidays and recently been to France and back. Never missed a beat. These Mercs are so practical and will run and run. It fits so much in and as well as all the kids and stuff it has had in a 3 seater settee, wardrobes, masses from Ikea and when the seats are down it is like a van.The mpg for such a big hulk of metal is fantastic. I've added a pic from the trip computer showing that over the last 1600 miles it's averaged 43.9mpg! For a car this big that is great and on a run you get over 50 easy. It averaged over 55mpg at one point on a recent run to the coast. The seats are really comfortable and there are no rips or tears with the drivers bolster still fine. It's the Elegance model which personally is my favourite with nice wood and leather steering wheel. It is very easy to drive for a big car. I have had a lot of work carried out, mainly by a very good friend of mine who is an ex Merc mechanic and I wanted to make sure it was in good nick for France this year. It had been struggling to start a bit over the winter and he plugged the diagnostics in and it needed 2 new glow plugs, and a heater which heats the diesel up when it's cold apparently, or something. He also cleaned the starter motor and the turbo and did a few other bits and bobs to make sure it was all good. He's done quite a bit for me over the years on this and other Mercs I've owned.I had it MOT's at the end of April a week or two before going to France. I did all the advisories and put 2 new tyres on the front. All in all I spent well over £500. This car is solid and been the best I've had but please remember it is 16 years old. It isn't brand new, but considering a new one will set you back 40k plus whoever is lucky enough to get it will be getting a bargain I am sure. in general it is in good nick, all 4 electric windows work fine, electric mirrors, electric front seats.Cruise control, tiptronic gear box. Lots of car for very little money. It does have a few issues that I want to make clear. The gear box can sometimes get stuck in 3rd gear. If you drive it right it doesn't happen. It hasn't happened to me in ages. I have worked out that it only tends to happen if you rev it really hard when going into 3rd. If you drive it normally it doesn't happen. If it does if you pull over and switch it off and on then it is fine again. This is a 16 year old estate and if you want to red line it then it isn't probably for you anyway. If you drive normally and steady then it is fine. It hasn't happened to me for ages. The body work does have a few of the normal Merc rust spots, mainly around the wheel arches. This as you will know was one of the biggest archilles heels of these era Mercs. I have seen far worse, and there is a few more years left in them before this starts to get a problem. As you would expect from a car this age there is the odd scratch and blemish but if anything it stops me being paranoid when parking at supermarkets. When it was Mot'd they thought there was a slight fuel leak from the tank. I told them to fix it as I didn't fancy driving to France with that. They re tested it a few days later and said it was fine. I noticed later however that it wasn't, but worked out it wasn't the fuel tank but the pipe from the petrol cap to the tank. I have worked out that it only leaks when it gets to about half way full and is parked at an angle with the weight on the tank. If you stay under half a tank or you park with it's tail in the air it doesn't leak. I have put some epoxy and tape on which has made it better but if I was going to keep it I would sort it properly. I am putting this in because I want to be honest, I now put in £20/30 quid of diesel in at a time and it doesn't leak at all, so you would never even know but I want to be straight. The handle of the glove box has just come off, it still works and opens fine and it looks like I could put it back on with a bit of glue/araldite but haven't gotten round to it. I have the handle still. Some of the screen numerals are pixillated, such as the clock but the trip computer works fine and all the mpg, speed etcI have noticed a little bit of brake judder recently but it still breaks strong and true. One of the reverse light bulbs has just gone, one is still working fine so is still legal and I have some spare bulbs.I have listed all that I can think of, but you can bring your own mechanic or anyone you like. Nothing to hide!!It's a solid car and have just been away again with the family for another holiday and drove strong and true.It doesn't have the service book but I have had it serviced twice, the old guy who I got it from owned it for 3 years and he said he used to own a Merc parts business and did all his own servicing and dropped the oil every 5,000 miles. The condition of the car shows to me that this car has been well looked after over the years. The engine, which is the most important bit, is as solid as a nut.It has lots of miles left in her and these run for ever with a bit of care. I have 2 keys, and lots of old bills and MOT's(see pics). I have tried to be as honest and straight as I can but please feel free to ask me anything you want. Please, please, please no time wasters. Has sold before and buyer in Outer Mongolia or whatever, or coming tomorrow, tomorrow.....I am genuine, check out my 100% feedback. All i ask is that you are too. This is priced to sell and any sensible bid will get the car. I would like it to go to a good home and to someone who will enjoy it as much as me.Many thanks and good luck.
